This session will dive into K-12 Open Education Resources (OER) and how to use AI to create supporting materials like pre-assessments, reviews and quizzes. Librarians are already finding and evaluating OER content. Take it to the next level and give educators in your building the tools to incorporate OER and AI to make quizzes, rubrics and supporting materials. Open education resources provide your learners with relevant, updated, equitable content while empowering educators. With the increase of 1:1 technology in schools, more and more educators are turning towards online content and resources. We’ll look at K-12 OER sources, Creative Commons licensing and AI tools best suited for resource creation so you can go back to your school and start implementing ideas immediately!

- Identify OER materials to use with K-12.
- Use AI to create ancillary materials using OER.
- How to use the resources in your classroom.
With the recent increase of 1:1 and integration of learning management systems in K-12 and the introduction of generative AI, now is the perfect time to re-evaluate using K-12 OER. In the past, K-12 OER incorporation was hampered by a lack of 1:1 technology and inconsistent ways to share content. With more schools providing 1:1 technology along with learning management systems, digitally based OER content can be shared with learners much more effectively. In addition, the advent of generative AI provided educators with the resources to create ancillary materials such as rubrics, comprehension questions, quizzes and more. These resources can be incorporated into learning management systems. Generative AI can also modify reading levels, provide differentiated content and activities and more.
The session will address the needs during the transition to a more digital-based environment and as a result, develop the confidence to advocate for equitable access to technology for their learners. In addition, OER integration allows learners to have access to current, culturally relevant content. AI supports educators in creating the ancillary materials for the OER content.
