Visionary Leadership
My work with teachers and administrators is based on empowerment and well-being. We all have skills and abilities that can transform the learning environment in some way. Building good working relationships with staff, developing their skill-sets and understanding their passions is critical to how a school grows. I believe strongly in ownership and intrinsic motivation not only for students but teachers too. When this happens, all things are possible.
Future-focused Learning
What does future-focused learning mean? It means:
- Developing in students the ability to problem-solve, collaborate, and the courage to share their ideas.
- Developing skills that are important to the students and which they are passionate about.
The work of the Educational Technology and Innovation Leader must be firmly embedded in teaching and learning. Authenticity is vital. English, Maths, Science, programming, and robotics are all important areas of learning. However, I am just as interested in our young writers publishing their work to an authentic audience, our artists exhibiting their work and our musicians, dancers and dramatists not only learning the art of performance and stagecraft but premiering their own original works. When thinking about agency, mastery, and purpose, I ask this question;
‘What are the intrinsic motivators that drive our students and teachers to learn on a higher plane, to go beyond the classroom, the schedule structures, and in doing so make learning truly transformational?’
