More About Me
I’m Laureen Alford, Genealogy Librarian at Northwest Library, a branch of the Dougherty County Public Library system. I was hired early this fall and began my job on September 3, 2019. From 2004 – 2019 I ran the Dougherty County Law Library. I’m a licensed Georgia attorney in addition to having my M.L.I.S. At our small branch library I help with circulation and all the tasks that have to be completed to keep our library running smoothly. My main area of responsibility is managing our genealogy and local history collection. I have a lot of catching up to do because my position was unfilled for two years before I came on board. Our entire collection moved from Central Library to the newly renovated Northwest Branch on October 19, 2019. I am going through everything and fine-tuning the organizational systems as well as catching up on genealogy cataloging. I teach genealogy classes twice a month, which is very enjoyable.
