Subject(s) I Teach or Learning Interest Area

Early childhood (PK, PPCD, 1st, and 2nd) Adults with autism. I love research: conducting research and reading research. I love to travel and have taught short sessions (1-2 weeks) of English as Second Language in Mexico, Ukraine and Tanzania.

    Personal Interests and Passions

Currently stepped out of classroom to prepare for graduate (doctoral) work. I am passionate about early childhood education and working with students with learning disabilities (diagnosed or not) - in particular math. I am also passionate about autism; in particular adults with autism, as this population is not well served and often has many learning needs not met by our education system. I believe in the power of a growth mindset, in mindfulness in all we do, and in ways to embed that in a classroom culture so that it becomes a natural cognitive part of behavior and thought.

    More About Me

I have a Masters of Education: Mind, Brain and Education. I love any reading on neuroscience as it relates to education, emotion, and behavior. I believe we need to explicitly teach Social Cognition to children/adults with autism and other "learning different" individuals who struggle with social cognition. Empathy is the number one requirement of teachers. If we do not embody and model empathy (for our self and others) we will not create an environment where children can thrive.
